About Pastor Dawson

John Howard Dawson was born and raised in Alliance, Ohio. He has degrees from Wheaton College, Westminster Theological Seminary and Vanderbilt University, where he is a candidate for the Ph.D. Before becoming a pastor, he has been an oil refinery chemist and a High School science teacher.  Pastor Dawson was called to be the minister at Lakeside in November 1995.

His wife is Sally Joy Dawson. They have five children whom they home school: Amy, Rachel, James, John Haydon and Annie Laurie. Pastor Dawson also is the leader of the "award winning" Dawson Family Band, comprised of members of the family. The band is an old time string band that plays gospel, old time and Celtic music. He is the chairman of the Board of the Mooresville Soup Kitchen, and is a founding director on the board of Dove House Children's Advocacy Center of Iredell County. He also currently serves on the First Presbytery’s Committee on Theological and Social Concerns and is the Chairman of the Synodal (denominational) Interchurch Relations Committee.
