Thanksgiving

Day 5 - March 11

Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name;  make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him;  tell of all his wonderful acts. Glory in his holy name;  let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice. Look to the LORD and his strength;  seek his face always. Remember the wonders he has done,  his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced, O descendants of Israel his servant,  O sons of Jacob, his chosen ones. —1 Chronicles 16:8-13

The next word is the word that we get Eucharist from, and it is about giving thanks. We bless God for His character, we thank Him for all that He’s done, we bless Him for who He is. We enter His presence praising Him and worshipping Him.

Praise blesses us, too. We are drawn closer to God as we praise Him, and praise is contagious. When we begin to praise God for His attributes and benefits, others in turn do the same.

When David brought the Ark of God into the tent inside the city of Jerusalem , he was giving thanks, dancing and celebrating. He said the words in the passage quoted above, leading the people in thanksgiving. David understood the priority of prayer: “Seek his face always.”

We’re to seek the face of the Lord always, and we’re to thank Him.

Thank God and praise Him for who He is and what He has done for you, specifically.
