Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the
door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds;
and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.—Luke 11:9-10
Luke 11:9-l0 instructs us to ask: keep on asking,
and He will give it to you. Keep on seeking, it says, and you will find. Knock,
keep on knocking, and the door will be open. In Luke l8:1-8, Jesus tells the
story of the widow’s petition and the reluctant judge. He shows them how they
should pray and not give up. It says, “Will not God bring about justice for
his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night?”
I guess there are people who ask God with mountain-
moving faith for things and they don’t get them because they don’t persist.
I know very few people who have prayed for 10 or 20 years who don’t have the
request they have asked God for. I ask myself sometimes, do we pray for so many
things that we can’t possibly persist in all of them?
Perhaps you should ask for fewer things. It would
be a great exercise to pick only a few things to ask for and to be determined to
be persistent in requesting these. When you shoot a rifle, it is able to hit
something with power. When you shoot a shotgun, you throw pellets into the air
and shoot them everywhere, hoping to hit something. We need to pray persistently
and aim for a few things and be persistent in them.
Remember to pray persistently for the “ungripped” people among your acquaintances, and for opportunities to present the gospel to them. Pray persistently for renewal and revival in the ARP church.
