Pray for Your Leaders

Day 2 - March 8

I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. — 1 Timothy 2:1-4

Here Paul urges Timothy to be a man of prayer. Paul tells him that when you have public worship, prayer must be an essential part. It is also essential for every single person to pray for the pastor, for the worship service, and during the service, that God might work in a great and mighty way.

In the last century two continents were moved by the revival that started in England by Dwight Moody. He went to visit England , and while there he received an invitation to preach in a little country church. It was a dead service. He gave an invitation; absolutely nothing happened, but he was asked to preach again that night. A woman in that church had an invalid aunt. She came home from church and said “Guess who preached today?” The invalid aunt said, “Could it possibly be Dwight L. Moody?” She said that she had been praying that God would send D.L. Moody to her church. She began to pray all afternoon. That night the church was packed out with people. After the service, more than 500 people came down to hear the plan of salvation. And so revival broke out in England and later in the United States .

According to most of the history books, Mr. Moody gets all the credit. I don’t think anyone even knows the name of the invalid woman who prayed so faithfully. But the Lord knows. In heaven we’ll see many people rewarded who have quietly and unashamedly prayed stubbornly, steadily, faithfully, that God might send His revival to the Church of Jesus Christ .

Pray for congregations to pray faithfully for their leaders. Pray for the leaders of your congregation.
