I
will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the
Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. — John
14:13-14
We need to pray asking in Jesus’ name, according
to John 14:13-14. Many of us stumble over the expression, “in Jesus’
name;” it’s not a formula to get your prayers answered — it is a way to go
to God the Father, tell Him what you need, and tell Him that you’re simply
coming in the name of Jesus Christ. We must approach God in the name of Jesus
Christ. When I am holy, He is holy. When I am unfaithful, He is faithful. When I
am up and down, He changes not! When there is no love in me, He is love. That is
what it means to pray in the name of Jesus Christ and to trust Him that
something will happen. God sees you in the same way that He sees His Son Jesus,
because of the blood of Jesus.
We pray in Jesus’ name because Jesus Christ
walked on this earth and He is our Savior. He is the boss of our life, and we
are here for one reason—simply to do His bidding. It’s not for our
satisfaction, not for our peace of mind, but for the glory of God. So we must
say “God, we come to you in prayer as ambassadors of your Son, Jesus.” We
come seeking the face of God and asking Him for what we cannot do on our own.
Our desire is the same desire that Jesus had when He was here on earth, that all
we are and all we have might bring glory to God.
