So I
say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and
the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks
finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. —Luke 11:9-10
Jesus tells the story of the man who comes and knocks over and over again, and he tells us that our Father in heaven desires us to ASK, to SEEK, and to KNOCK and to keep on knocking and to do that in a manner that would honor God. He is reminding us that we must be persistent in our prayer.
In Luke 18, Jesus tells us the story of the
persistent widow who wore down the judge – she just kept coming to him and
kept coming to him, and then he says that God will bring justice to those who
cry out to Him day and night. So we need to ask, how do we become more effective
in our prayer life?
I love what Murray McCheyne said: “What we are in
our prayer closets is what we are!” How are you when you are alone with God?
Do you really know Him? Do you believe that when you pray He listens and that He
is waiting to answer your prayer? Do you persist in prayer?
